Join Us to Take Back The Night!

The YWCA will be taking part in Take Back The Night in both Peterborough and Haliburton for the second year! Our 2024 theme is “Shatter The Silence”.

Started in the 1970s, Take Back The Night is one of the world’s oldest movements to stand against sexual violence, and is now held in local events and marches every year across the globe.

Mark your calendars for Thursday, September 19, for a powerful gathering focused on awareness, remembrance, and activism.

Peterborough Event

YWCA is co-hosting again with Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre, Niijkiwendidaa Anishnaabekwewag Services Circle, and the Peterborough Domestic Abuse Network.

Join us in the courtyard of Peterborough Square from 3pm to 6pm to visit tables with info and products from community agencies, local vendors, and poster-making for the march that night.

From 6pm to 9pm we’ll have musical and poetry performances along with presentations from our host organizations, before we have our annual candlelit vigil and march through downtown. We hope to see you for an evening of education on community supports, arts and crafts, food, performances, activism, and solidarity!

Peterborough Walking Route:

  • We will start from the Peterborough Square Courtyard, keeping to sidewalks only, and walk to the Pebble Mosaic in Millennium Park for some words and a moment of silence before we head to the loop through downtown Nogojiwanong-Peterborough.
  • Any folks with accessibility needs, mobility devices, or strollers to be at the front of the walking group to set the pace for the group.
  • Anyone who wishes to attend the event but does not feel comfortable with doing the walk is welcome to stay at the Peterborough Square Courtyard until the group returns (we will have staff/volunteers stay behind as well)
