Centennial Crescent Housing Community
YWCA’s rent-geared-to-income housing community provides safe homes for women and children who have been impacted by gender-based violence.
As the only Special Priority Program housing community in Peterborough, the YWCA provides safe, supportive housing to women with and without children. Our 40 townhouse units, including 1, 2, 3, and 4 bedroom units, are restricted by our lease to women-led households only, are smoke free, and some units are accessible.
Centennial Crescent staff have developed a comprehensive community handbook with engagement and input from community members. All operations are in alignment with the Residential Tenancies Act, Housing Services Act, the Human Rights Code, the City of Peterborough (Housing Access Peterborough), and the City of Peterborough Housing Guide (July 2021).
YWCA Peterborough Haliburton and Centennial Crescent housing community includes all women-identified people in our use and understanding of “woman” and “women” regardless of the sex they were assigned at birth.
More Than a Safe Space: Supportive Programming
The Centennial Crescent Housing Manager works to meet community members where they are at in their unique situations, and develops case management plans of care for the most vulnerable community members. This is a team-oriented approach where all staff work together to ensure the well-being of residents.
Our on-site Family Support Workers provide women and their children with ongoing access to longer-term support, as well as youth engagement programming. We work within an enhanced client-centered service delivery model to make appropriate referrals to community members and provide wraparound supports to women and children, including attending appointments, advocacy, and ensuring partner agencies follow through with action items.
Residents have the opportunity to interact and participate in activities such as community gardening, beautification of communal spaces, and celebrating special occasions to foster a community environment. Our staff have an open door policy and are here to support every community member on their healing journey.
