YWCA Seeks Board Directors and other volunteers: dynamic women who want to make a difference in the lives of women and children

Peterborough, ON – February 19th, 2026 –

YWCA Peterborough Haliburton is seeking volunteers who identify as women with a passion to be involved with an organization that helps women and children thrive. “The YWCA plays a vital role in our community and its sustainability depends on women who will make impactful decisions in support of our mission: YWCA Peterborough Haliburton exists to help women and children in our communities live safely and know satisfaction and joy in their daily lives. We offer shelter, educational programming, counselling, and advocacy, in collaboration with the community and women themselves. We are de-colonizing our structure as we explore what Reconciliation means to us personally, as a board and as an organization. The YWCA knows that its fiscal management, community reputation and most importantly, valued staff are the basis for these trusting relationships.” Hermione Rivison, YWCA Peterborough Haliburton Board President.

YWCA Peterborough Haliburton Board is committed to Reconciliation and draws strength from its diversity. We encourage women from all backgrounds, lived experiences, and ages to join our organization, especially women 30 years and younger. As a learning board, we are committed to sharing our experience with women who may be new to Board governance, and we strive to create a collegial environment in which all Board members can share their perspectives and talents. We are particularly interested in women who have experience in the areas of Truth and Reconciliation, finance, governance, and recruitment. As an organization, we will always be committed to Reconciliation and honouring diverse perspectives that reflect the communities we serve.” Dana Capell, Nominating Committee Chair

About YWCA Peterborough Haliburton

YWCA Peterborough Haliburton is an equity-seeking organization. As a member of YWCA Canada, we are part of a global movement dedicated to seeing the end of gender-based violence in all its forms. We see women and their children at their most vulnerable moments; thus, we are in a position to offer an experience of trust, respect, and genuine care that has the potential to provide a key step towards healing. We take this responsibility seriously.

Our hope, armed with our shared passion and intentional approaches, makes for a powerful force against gender-based violence. The journey is daunting at times and the road is long, and our sisterhood and our allies have a vision and a fierce, unwavering determination. We have been here for more than 130 years and we will be here for as long as it takes to see this vision through. YWCA Peterborough Haliburton includes all women-identified people in our use and understanding of “woman” and “women” regardless of the sex they were assigned at birth.

YWCA Programs include: Crossroads Shelter for women and children fleeing abuse, 24-hour support and crisis line, outreach support services, Family Court Support, START (Support Team for Abuse Response Today), Education Awards for abuse survivors, Centennial Crescent housing community, Women’s Centre of Haliburton County and Haliburton Emergency Rural SafeSpace (HERS), and Thrive Hive.
