YWCA Peterborough Haliburton’s most popular community event, Walk A Mile In Their Shoes, returned in June 2024 after a four-year hiatus. The event was a huge success, thanks to the amazing support of our generous community members.

Among the top fundraisers for this year’s event were a group of participants on “Team Scotia” from Scotiabank Kawartha Centre on Hunter Street in downtown Peterborough. Not only did Team Scotia raise $2,588 for Walk A Mile through their fundraising pages, but Scotiabank has also announced they will be matching the funds raised, bringing their total for Team Scotia up to $5,176.
Tina Thornton, Director of Philanthropy at the YWCA, presented Team Scotia with the trophy for “Highest Pledges Raised by a Team” for 2024.
John D’Altoe, Branch Manager for Scotiabank Kawartha Centre and the leader for Team Scotia, was also awarded the trophy for “Highest Pledges Raised by an Individual” for 2024. John was proud to continue his branch’s strong tradition of community support and service.
“We are extremely happy that we are in a position to make an impact in our community. It is very important for us at Scotiabank to ensure that we are an effective ally, not only in our workplace but also in the communities we live and support. The Walk a Mile in Their Shoes allows us to bring awareness to and help end Gender Based Violence against women, children and gender-diverse individuals in our community.”
John D’Altoe, Branch Manager, Scotiabank Kawartha Centre
