YWCA Peterborough Haliburton Welcomes New Director of Philanthropy
The YWCA Peterborough Haliburton is pleased to announce that we are welcoming Tina Thornton to our senior management team as Director of Philanthropy. The decision comes after a comprehensive search to identify a seasoned professional to provide leadership to the Philanthropy Team during an exciting phase of growth for the organization.
“I’m excited to welcome Tina Thornton as our successful candidate for Director of Philanthropy,” says YWCA Executive Director Kim Dolan. “Tina was selected from a long list of qualified candidates after a competitive two-stage interview process that showcased her extensive experience as well as her commitment and dedication to our mission, vision, and values.”
Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Director of Philanthropy is responsible for the direction and management of the YWCA’s fundraising team, initiatives and activities designed to support and further the mission of the YWCA. The Director of Philanthropy creates and implements an effective, comprehensive fundraising plan focusing on the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individuals and families, corporations and foundations. The Director of Philanthropy provides the highest level of stewardship for all donations to the YWCA and all relationships with donors and prospective donors in accordance with professional ethics and approved business practices. The Director supports the mission of the YWCA and builds awareness while operating ethically.
Tina is an executive-level leader with over 15 years of experience in both for-profit and not-for-profit environments. Her most recent employment was as a Special Assignments Manager with Nexicom. This role encompassed a large portfolio, including but not limited to: project management and planning, acquiring funds for new capital projects for corporate growth or footprint expansion, project marketing and communications, serving as Privacy Officer, contracts manager, budget management, and customer service/sales. Tina has several accomplishments to celebrate during her time with Nexicom, including successfully bidding for and being awarded substantial government funding.
In her personal time, she is a committed volunteer and community builder. Tina is no stranger to the YWCA, having served on our Board of Directors from June 2015 to June 2021. She held several executive positions on the Board, including Treasurer and President. In accordance with our policies, she is eligible for employment given that she has not been on the Board for two (2) years. She currently serves as a Director on the Board of Canopy Support Services and as the Site and Route Lead for the 2023 Canadian Cancer Society Run for the Cure. She was also the Head Coach for the Special Olympics softball team. Tina holds various certifications from the University of Toronto and Sir Sandford Fleming College, including Business Administration, Project Management, and Peak Leadership. She holds professional certifications with CAPM and Cert.APM.
