May 5 is the MMIWG2S+ National Day of Awareness (also know as Red Dress Day), which honours the thousands of missing and murdered Indigenous women, girls, 2 spirit, and gender-diverse people in Canada by encouraging learning and building awareness to end violence against Indigenous women, girls, 2 spirit, and gender-diverse people.
For the second year, local Indigenous-owned apparel business Nish Tees is offering a T-shirt with a design from Mia Ohki, a Métis-Japanese Canadian artist, to mark the MMIWG2S+ National Day of Awareness.
This year, Nish Tees will be donating proceeds to both the Niijkiwendidaa Anishnaabekwewag Services Circle and YWCA Peterborough Haliburton.
T-shirts are available for sale on the Nish Tees website: www.nishtees.ca/red-shirt-day-mmiwg2s
