The women’s and children’s shelter in Minden is not sustainable without more funding and a change in how it operates.
Jen Cureton, director of philanthropy for the YWCA Peterborough-Haliburton, updated County Council Jan. 24 on their recently-completed sustainability study for the Haliburton Emergency Rural SafeSpace (HERS) shelter. She later met with The Highlander for an interview. Cureton said she didn’t go to county council seeking money, just to update them. And, she conceded, it “wasn’t fantastic news … I would have loved to report we found a way and we’re sustainable now. And, you know, hopefully we’ll get there.” (Read more…)
