This year’s 11th annual YWCA Walk a Mile in Her Shoes march returns May 24 with a new sponsor but the same focus of raising money for YWCA Crossroads Shelter to support local women and children fleeing abuse.
“It’s an honour to support the life-changing work the of YWCA Peterborough Haliburton,” Drew Merrett, owner of new title sponsor Merrett Home Hardware Building Centre, told those gathered for a Thursday launch at the YWCA’s Simcoe Street office.
More than $850,000 has been raised in support of the shelter since the first event was held in Peterborough in 2009 and Merrett encouraged everyone to keep the ball rolling to assist the Safe Nights sleep program.
“We need you to be with us in solidarity for the women and children whose lives have been forever changed as a result of intimate partner violence and who will benefit so deeply from the services of (the shelter) in order to safely move forward with their lives,” he said. (Read more…)
