Stabilizing homeless, not just affordable housing, key to housing crisis: PHC

Rent-geared-to-income housing will be a key tool in dealing with Peterborough’s homeless situation, and working through the wait list of 1,295 households looking for housing.

But wraparound services meant to stabilize and transition people to more independent living are also going to be valuable resources in resolving the housing crisis, says Peterborough Housing Corporation (PHC) president Darlene Cook.

PHC is the city’s housing provider and currently has 149 units in development. That includes the McRae project off McDonnel Street which will provide housing for seniors and single mothers as well as an assisted-living facility in Havelock. (Read more…)
