The local YWCA is about to receive $1 million in federal funding over five years for a program to help single mothers access affordable housing as well as a college education.
Women and Gender Equality and International Development Minister Maryam Monsef — who is the MP for Peterborough-Kawartha — made the announcement at the YWCA on Tuesday.
The money is going toward the Homeward Bound program in Peterborough.
Under the program, the vacant Fleming College trade school on Bonaccord Street — the McRae building — is being converted into 34 affordable apartments. (Read more…)
