Sarah Myles holds the YWCA Crossroads Shelter near and dear to her heart.
That’s why she joined the walk on May 25 and raised enough money to fund 31 safe nights of sleep at the shelter.
Crossroads supports women and children fleeing abuse. A safe night costs $45.96, above and beyond government funding.
The 2018 Trent Valley Honda’s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes raised $138,577 – the most funds yet over its decade-long run. That’ll cover 3,014 safe nights.
The total was announced at the YWCA Peterborough Haliburton Friday morning.
Myles raised $1,452 in just two weeks.
Before moving to Peterborough last year, Myles worked at women’s shelters in Toronto.
So when she heard about Walk a Mile, in support of Crossroads, she knew she had to walk.
“I don’t think women and children should have to go without a safe night,” Myles said. (Read more…)
