The ‘What’s Next?’ Fund is an initiative spearheaded by the friends and family of YWCA Peterborough Haliburton to commemorate Lynn Zimmer’s brilliant career, to celebrate her transition to the next exciting phase of her life and to ensure that women in our community will have brighter and more independent futures for years to come.
As per Lynn’s request, the fund will support innovative programs at the YWCA that specifically address the tough journey of rebuilding a life after the initial crisis of escaping domestic violence has passed, including (but not limited to):
- Transitional programs and services that support women as they move beyond Crossroads Shelter to independent living
- Growth of existing high impact programs such as START and Family Court Support.
- New program initiatives that are innovative and best practice in programming for women and children who are healing from domestic violence.
The YWCA Board of Directors will allocate funds annually to ensure programs are nimble, innovative and resilient in serving the women and children in our community, beyond what government funding provides (only 60% of program costs).
Lynn Zimmer shares what she has valued most about her 35 years with the YWCA:
“Working with women every day who are driven by powerful shared values and dreams for the future. Being able to take risks to establish new programs and to advocate for change, knowing that opportunities are fleeting, governments change, and the independence of our feminist vision and mission must be fiercely protected, always.”
We will be reaching out to the community to build the ‘What’s Next?’ Fund until the end of 2019.
